Paul studied the piano with Rosalie Helliwell, with Cimbro Martin at the Guildhall School of Music and later with Paul Hamburger. He started his career as an opera repetiteur, regular guest coach at the Opera de la Monnaie in Brussels and Head of Music Staff for the European Opera Centre.

He has accompanied countless song and instrumental recitals and has given many chamber music concerts with the Kammerspiel Piano Trio, formed in 1994 with Stephen Morris (violin) and Robin Thompson-Clarke (cello). He has also given solo recitals and concerto performances including Beethoven 1st and 5th, Shostakovitch No.2 and Brahms No.2. Recent concerts have included a recital with Anthony Rolfe Johnson at the Opera house in Ghent and a recital with Willard White in the Cada da Musica, Porto.

On Kammerspiel's album 'Seven Last Words' Paul plays his own Fazioli 212 piano that he has owned since 1995. It was formerly owned by a recording studio and was the piano that Freddie Mercury played on his last album.

Concerts in 2004 with the Kammerspiel Piano Trio have included the Holywell Music Rooms, Oxford (January) and St. Mary’s Walthamstow (April). Coming up in July is Castle Hedingham Music Festival (Haydn, Beethoven and Ravel) and Deal in Kent in October.

At the 2004 Castle Hedingham Festival he gave a solo recital of Schubert, Chopin and Rachmaninov. The 2005 festival included the Piano Quartet Op.15 by Fauré and Schubert's 'Trout' Quintet and his recital for the 2006 festival included Beethoven's Pathetique and Waldstein sonatas and Liszt's Sonata in B minor. December 2006 saw the Kammerspiel Trio in Ireland for a concert of music by Ian Wilson, Gershwin and Mendelssohn.
